About Me

Hi,

I'm originally from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Canada and I’m currently living and teaching in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.  This is my sixth year teaching, and my third year teaching the PYP at I-Shou International School in Taiwan!

The Primary Years Programme (PYP) is an inquiry based curriculum that focuses on concept-based learning and authentic student led action. I absolutely love inquiry teaching and guiding my students to go out in the world and TAKE ACTION! I'm a huge supporter of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme and I feel so lucky to be apart of this community.

In addition to teaching in Taiwan, I've also lived and taught in Mexico, Costa Rica and Canada. I love international teaching and the challenges and excitements that living abroad brings to my daily life.

I've started this blog to document the process of learning that happens in my classroom so that I can use it as a reflection tool and as a way to virtually organize my thoughts and ideas. It's called FIRST IN ACTION,  because taking action is what I model and guide my students towards, and of course because I teach First Grade and we are constantly in action! My hope for my students is that when they leave my class they have the skills, knowledge and understanding to continue to take authentic action to better themselves, the community and the Earth.  You are never too young, or too old to take action!
